Name: Briana Howland Grade: Pre K - 5 Subject: Orchestra (a.k.a. Strings) Classroom: 309 Email: briana.howland@gpisd.org Teacher of the Week 9/17-9/21/2012
I grew up in Arlington, Texas where I graduated from Arlington High School. I started playing violin in 5th grade and quickly fell in love with orchestra. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Tulsa where I received a Bachelor of Music Education. This will be my first year teaching and I am very excited to be teaching orchestra at GFAA. It is my personal belief that every student has the right to an opportunity to learn music, and specifically orchestra. Being in a music ensemble helps children learn self-discipline, teamwork, and gain self-confidence. It is my hope that by setting a positive example in music and life, students will grow into exceptional and contributing members of society. Music is not a subject similar to any other. It is one of the few subjects that carries over into every aspect of a students life, from learning life lessons to motivating them to do well in their schoolwork to helping them enrich society. "Nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished without the will to start, the enthusiasm to continue and, regardless of temporary obstacles, the persistence to complete." -Waite Phillips
