HISTORY

1902 Grand Prairie Schools established
1904 Ten formal grades established
1905 Construction of a 2 story building at 214 W. College.
1911 First graduated class completed high school program.
1951 Grand Prairie High School moved to 101 High School Drive
1956 Gopher Bowl dedicated
1963 H. H. Chambers Auditorium dedicated
1990 GPHS was remodeled
2002 The GPHS Ninth Grade Campus is built on the west end of GPHS campus.
2004 Gopher Bowl upgrades completed.
2008 The SAC-Student Activities Center was completed at GPHS.
2008 The addition of the new Science wing was completed
2011 The SAC was redidicated as the Col. Almond building after Col. Almond M.D.
2011 Construction began of the Chambers Auditorium.

 
 
BACKGROUND

Grand Prairie High School (CEEB #442930) serves an upper-middle to low income community. It is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. The enrollment is approximately 2050 students. The curriculum includes both college preparatory and career-technical courses. It also has established a Law Program and a Fine Arts Academy option.  Evening school and summer school programs are also offered. Our special education program includes functional and CTED classes. The Ninth Grade Center offers an ESL Academy to assist in the transition of non-English speaking students into the core curriculum.

 GPHS operates on a semester calendar.
 

MISSION STATEMENT

The job of molding lives is a tremendous challenge. All students can learn when provided proper guidance and support from faculty and administration, effective and continuously evaluated curriculum, and a safe orderly environment. Our entire staff is focused and dedicated towards this end.

GPHS LOCATION

Grand Prairie is a suburb of the Dallas/Ft.Worth metroplex. GPHS is located in the northern part of Grand Prairie just south of I-30 between Beltline Road and 19th Street.

GPHS FACILITIES

The GPHS present site was built in 1951. Upgrades and expansions were made to the original site in 1990 to accomodate 2700 students. Located on our campus are a 2000 seat H.H. Chambers Auditorium, 3000 seat Turner Competition Gym, and 9500 seat Gopher Bowl football stadium. In 2002 the Ninth Grade Center was opened on the west end of the campus to house 1000 students.  The new Student Activities Center was completed in 2008.
