History

The Grand Prairie Independent School District's high schools were awarded a "Smaller Learning Communities" grant by the United States Department of Education in October 2003.  Both high schools share this grant; however, each has its own model of a smaller learning community.

GPHS Smaller Learning Community Model

Building on the GPHS Ninth Grade structure, students are grouped in core areas by grade level. Emphasis is on academics, including both achievement and advising.

GPHS SLC Goals

• Increase parent contact, involvement, and support   
• Increase student achievement   
• Increase student participation in post-secondary learning programs   
• Increase attendance   
• Reduce high-risk behaviors   
• Strengthen collegial relationships and collaboration
